Ombudsman Program for Seniors

• Long-Term Care (LTC) Ombudsman programs are federally mandated, state-operated, free, and confidential services that protect the health, safety, and rights of seniors in nursing homes, assisted living, and board-and-care facilities. They investigate complaints, resolve conflicts, and advocate for improvements in quality of care. 

How to Find Local Assistance:

• National Resource Center: Visit the National Long-Term Care Ombudsman Resource Center website for state-specific contact information.

• State Agencies: Each state has a designated office, often within the Department of Elder Affairs (e.g., in Florida, it is managed by the Department of Elder Affairs).

• Register your phone with the DoNotCall.org registry or call 888-382-1222.  Avoid unwanted calls from strangers.  This registration does not expire.

• Keep a security latch on your door or a peep hole so you can see who is at the door prior to opening it.
