Finding an Attorney

• Go to the website of your state by searching on the internet: [state] bar association 

• Look for specialist in a particular areas, such as senior, elder, living will, advance directives, durable power of attorney, or estate planning

• Once you find an attorney, interview them to make sure it's a good fit for your needs.

Hiring an Attorney

• Does the attorney have experience in the area of law you need?

• Does the attorney pay attention to your questions and concerns?

• Be sure to discuss the costs up front for the work that is being performed.

The National Elder Law Foundation (NELF) offers a certified program for attorneys who specialize in elder law.  This program is approved by the American Bar Association.  The Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA) designation indicates an attorney's commitment to elder law.
